Senator Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania has expressed his approval of Amazon’s recent announcement to invest $20 billion in the state. This investment marks the largest economic development project in Pennsylvania’s history, focusing on the construction of data center campuses in Luzerne and Bucks Counties. The initiative is expected to generate thousands of jobs.
Senator McCormick acknowledged the collaborative efforts involved, stating, “I’m grateful to Amazon, Governor Shapiro, and leaders across all levels of government for working to secure this historic investment for the Commonwealth.” He highlighted Pennsylvania’s strengths that make it an attractive location for such projects: “Our state’s vast energy resources, combined with our skilled workforce, plentiful water, proximity to major population centers, and elite research institutions, make Pennsylvania a perfect base to power America’s innovative technological future through data centers like these.”
The senator also emphasized the significance of this development beyond immediate job creation. He noted that it paves the way for workforce training programs and contributes to ongoing economic momentum. McCormick remarked on upcoming initiatives: “This commitment to Pennsylvania by Amazon is just the beginning and builds a massive amount of momentum as we approach my inaugural Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh next month.” The summit aims to gather various stakeholders including elected officials, leading energy and AI companies, global investors, and labor leaders to further solidify Pennsylvania’s role in attracting data center investments and fostering job growth amid technological advancements.
