Penn State College of Medicine faculty and students received a pleasant surprise on February 17 as part of Random Acts of Kindness Day. The Office of Student Affairs organized the event, distributing sweet treats and snacks to celebrate the occasion.
Karen Kim, MD, MS, the College dean, participated by offering first-year medical students a study break and treating them to coffee. “Student Affairs organizes similar events throughout the academic year,” noted Dr. Kim.
These initiatives aim to provide students with opportunities to take breaks from their demanding schedules. With burnout rates high nationwide—approximately half of U.S. medical students report experiencing burnout according to the American Medical Association—the office is dedicated to promoting wellness through various programs and resources.
Additionally, the College’s Office for Professional Mental Health offers support not only for students but also for faculty, residents, fellows, and physicians.
