A crop and livestock farm in Conewago Township has been added to Pennsylvania’s farmland preservation program, securing its status as agricultural land for future generations. Representative Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) announced that the 181-acre property, owned by Jonathan Coble’s family, received approval from the Pennsylvania Agriculture Land Preservation Board for a conservation easement.

Mehaffie praised the decision by the Coble family, stating, “I commend the Cobles for taking this step to protect the land, so everyone can grow up seeing how Pennsylvania’s farms feed the nation.” He added, “I’ve been fortunate to visit with the Cobles on their impressive, eighth-generation farm. I commend them for thinking about the future at a time when they, like all farmers, are facing unprecedented challenges and uncertainties.”

The farm is one of 27 across Pennsylvania preserved last week under a state program that began in the late 1980s. This initiative uses easements to prevent commercial or residential development on productive farmland.
