State Representatives Sheryl M. Delozier and Thomas Kutz, along with Senator Greg Rothman, are organizing a free identity theft prevention and document shredding event. The initiative is targeted at residents of Hampden and Silver Spring townships within their respective districts. Scheduled for Saturday, April 5, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the Kohl’s parking lot located at 6444 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg.
In a joint statement, the legislators expressed their enthusiasm for continuing this service: “We are pleased to work with Hampden and Silver Spring townships for the third consecutive year to help residents protect themselves from identity theft by providing a safe, secure and convenient way to dispose of documents.”
They further encouraged participation by highlighting the benefits of protecting sensitive information: “We hope our constituents will take advantage of this opportunity to do some spring cleaning while protecting themselves from fraudsters who are looking to obtain passwords, Social Security numbers and other sensitive information from their private files.”
The event has a limit of five boxes or bags per household. Certain items such as already shredded paper, three-ring binders, plastic materials, carbon paper, metal objects, food wrappers, and blueprints will not be accepted.
