Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has been named a 2026 High Performing hospital for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report. This recognition is the highest distinction in the annual Best Hospitals for Maternity Care study, which is now in its fifth year.

The ratings are designed to help expectant parents and their healthcare providers make informed choices about where to receive maternity services. For the 2026 edition, about 900 hospitals across the United States provided data on their maternity care for evaluation.

Milton S. Hershey Medical Center received its High Performing status based on several criteria, including C-section rates among lower-risk pregnancies, rates of severe unexpected newborn complications, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, and birthing-friendly practices.

“We are proud to be recognized as a high-performing maternity care provider by U.S. News & World Report. This achievement reflects our commitment to growing obstetric services across our integrated academic medical center that provide a personal, compassionate maternity care and birth experience,” said Dr. Richard Legro, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. “From routine pregnancies to the most complex cases, our team is poised to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for both mother and baby.”

The medical center offers a full spectrum of women’s health and maternity services along with access to advanced technology, clinical protocols, and research programs. It features specialized resources such as the Complex Fetal Care Center and the region’s only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The Labor and Delivery Unit operates within Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital, which provides comprehensive pediatric services for children with serious medical conditions.

Further information about the rankings can be found on U.S. News & World Report’s website.
