Penn State Health begins its yearly celebration of Children’s Week, an initiative that facilitates fundraising for the Children’s Miracle Network’s Patient Assistance Endowment. The campaign, running from April 7 through April 13, supports families whose children are under medical care at the Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
Katie Anderson, the director of the Children’s Miracle Network at the hospital, emphasized the struggles families face during hospitalization. “Amid the chaos of hospitalizations and medical emergencies, many families are not only grappling with their children’s health challenges but also struggling to meet basic needs,” said Anderson. She detailed the importance of the network’s support in relieving financial strains, highlighting the provision of transportation and covering the costs of essential medical supplies.
The Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) has set a fundraising goal of $100,000 for this year to assist 200 families. Anderson stated, “The Patient Assistance Endowment offers vital support to families in crisis.” She added that even minimal contributions could provide significant relief, whether through meals or essential travel equipment for children.

Jennifer Kupko shared her family’s experience, underscoring the endowment’s impact. Her son, Gannon, who was born prematurely, faced a severe medical situation requiring a special car restraint. The endowment provided this essential equipment, allowing Gannon to travel safely after an extended hospital stay. Anderson remarked on the significance of such gestures, stating, “In the midst of his extended hospital stay, mounting medical bills and emotional strain, this gesture of support meant everything to the Kupko family.”
