Three Penn State Health hospitals have been recognized in the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings. Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Holy Spirit Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center were highlighted for their quality of medical and surgical care.

Dr. Michael Kupferman, chief executive officer at Penn State Health, stated, “This recognition is a direct reflection of the high-quality care our physicians, nurses and staff deliver every day. In my short time with this organization, I have been deeply impressed by the extraordinary professionalism, compassion and commitment to excellence demonstrated across every level of our health system.”

Milton S. Hershey Medical Center received national rankings in gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics, and ear, nose and throat specialties. The center was also rated as high performing in cancer, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, as well as urology. It was ranked #1 in the Harrisburg metro region and #6 in Pennsylvania overall.

Holy Spirit Medical Center was designated as high performing for its treatment of hip fractures, pneumonia, and heart arrhythmia cases. St. Joseph Medical Center earned high performance ratings for treating congestive heart failure and heart attack patients.

Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital—a partnership between Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Select Medical—was ranked #47 nationally for rehabilitation services.

The annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings use data such as clinical outcomes, preventable complications, and nursing care levels to evaluate hospitals across the country. These rankings aim to guide patients and doctors in making informed choices about where to seek care by reflecting top-performing hospitals at both state and local levels.
