Legislation introduced by Sen. Camera Bartolotta, aimed at enhancing financial stability and government efficiency in Pennsylvania, has been passed by the Senate Labor and Industry Committee. The bill, known as Senate Bill 101, was approved unanimously by the committee.

The proposed legislation mandates the sharing of data necessary for analyzing workforce development programs and policies. This data, which is currently available, would be provided to Pennsylvania’s 22 local workforce development boards. The Department of Labor and Industry, along with the Center for Workforce Information and Analysis, would be responsible for sharing information on wages, new hires, and unemployment claimants.

Sen. Bartolotta commented, “It’s a no-brainer to maximize the benefit of information that is already collected for Pennsylvanians who are pursuing career pathways to financial stability. Sharing the information will highlight the parts of the program that have been successful and those that have been less so.” She emphasized that utilizing this information for guiding program changes will assist more individuals and ensure the responsible use of tax dollars.

Senate Bill 101 also proposes to provide technical assistance and necessary support to ensure the data is not only accessible but also useful for local workforce development boards.

With committee approval secured, the bill will now proceed to the full Senate for further consideration.
