Senator Kim Ward, an active voice on social media, recently shared a series of tweets highlighting various issues and celebrations pertinent to Pennsylvania. Her posts covered topics ranging from agricultural pests to local arts and the state’s dairy industry.
On July 8, 2025, Senator Ward addressed the issue of spotted lanternflies invading most counties in Pennsylvania since 2014. She noted their destructive impact on crops and mentioned that these insects even appeared on Western Pennsylvania weather radar last year. She urged constituents to “Check your gear, Kill them responsibly, [and] Don’t spread them.”
The following day, July 9, 2025, she expressed admiration for the artistic talent in Westmoreland County. Senator Ward referenced an event where the “‘Best of the best’ [was] shown off at Westmoreland Arts and Heritage fest,” as reported by TribLive.
Later on July 9, she celebrated National Ice Cream Month by emphasizing Pennsylvania’s significant role in the dairy industry. She highlighted that the state ranks second nationally for dairy farms and encouraged residents to support local creameries. Senator Ward remarked that “our local creameries serve up some of the best scoops around.”
The spotted lanternfly is an invasive species first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014; it poses a threat to agriculture due to its feeding habits on fruit trees and hardwoods.
