Sen. Kim Ward, a Pennsylvania State Senator and President Pro Tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate, posted a series of messages on her social media account in late July 2025 highlighting veteran employment, support for steelworkers, and a regional photography contest.
On July 25, 2025, Ward marked National Hire a Veteran Day with an appeal to employers: “Today is National Hire a Veteran Day — a reminder that hiring a veteran means gaining a dedicated, skilled and mission-driven team member. Let’s honor their service by opening doors to new opportunities.”
The following day, she celebrated what she described as a victory for workers and the steel industry. In her post dated July 26, 2025, Ward wrote: “Thank you. We stood our ground — and we won. I’ll always fight for the workers who built this country. Steel is our heritage. Innovation is our future. Let’s keep building. Let’s get it done. @U_S_Steel”
Later that same day, Ward promoted community engagement through the arts by drawing attention to an ongoing photo contest: “Do you like to tell stories through photographs? The Susquehanna Greenway Photo Contest is accepting submissions through July 31. Winners receive cash prizes and recognition in a traveling gallery. Find details and submission information here:”
National Hire a Veteran Day aims to raise awareness about the value veterans bring to civilian workplaces after military service.
Pennsylvania has historically been home to major steel production centers such as Pittsburgh, making the industry an important part of its economic identity.
The Susquehanna Greenway Photo Contest encourages residents to share images capturing life along the Susquehanna River corridor; winning entries are displayed in exhibitions across the region.
