Senator Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania has expressed his support for the new partnership between Nippon Steel and United States Steel Corporation. In a statement, McCormick commended former President Donald Trump, Secretary Bessent, and other senior administration officials for their role in facilitating this agreement.
McCormick highlighted the significance of this $14 billion investment by Nippon Steel, emphasizing its impact on job preservation and expansion in Pennsylvania’s Mon Valley. “Only Donald Trump could have made this happen,” he stated, acknowledging Trump’s involvement in the discussions alongside Congressman Mike Kelly and Congressman Dan Meuser.
The senator outlined his priorities as focusing on job security and economic investment within the region. He noted that the partnership would enhance U.S. domestic steel production capacity while safeguarding over 11,000 jobs in Pennsylvania and creating at least 14,000 more.
“This partnership is great for the economy, great for national security, and great for the hardworking people of Pennsylvania,” McCormick said. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that U.S. Steel remains under American control and praised the partnership’s alignment with efforts to rebuild U.S. manufacturing.
