Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner visited Pittsburgh to tour several community investment and revitalization programs. Their stops included United States Steel Corporation, Bedford Dwellings, and Light of Life Rescue Mission.

“It was great spending the day in Pittsburgh with Secretary Turner and getting to demonstrate firsthand so much of what makes Pennsylvania great and a pillar of our nation’s future success. From U. S. Steel’s historic Edgar Thomson Works, which will help revitalize manufacturing in our region, to Bedford Dwellings’ efforts to help working Pennsylvanians achieve and maintain the dream of home ownership, and Light of Life’s incredible, faith-based mission to lift up those in need and help them achieve a brighter future, we saw the best western Pennsylvania has to offer,” said Senator McCormick. “I’m looking forward to continuing working with President Trump, Secretary Turner, and my colleagues in Congress to expand access to affordable housing and revitalize communities in Pennsylvania and across America.”

“Pittsburgh stands as a testament to America’s spirit of hard work and resilience,” said HUD Secretary Scott Turner. “I kicked off my visit with Senators McCormick and Fetterman at U. S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson Works – a site that isn’t just a legacy of Pittsburgh’s steel industry, but a foundation for the future. Throughout the day, I met local leaders and visited programs that carried that same spirit forward, demonstrating that when Americans unite in service, we revitalize communities, build self-sufficiency, and create opportunity.”

Earlier this year, President Trump signed an Executive Order approving Nippon Steel’s investment in U.S. Steel Corporation. This move allows the company to invest further in jobs and steel production while remaining an important part of Pittsburgh’s economy.

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) joined the tour at U.S. Steel where participants discussed manufacturing growth, job creation, and increasing housing supply.

Bedford Dwellings is known as Pittsburgh’s first public housing development built by the Housing Authority. It offers affordable housing as well as educational and recreational programs for residents.

Light of Life is a nonprofit organization providing food, shelter, and other services for people facing homelessness or addiction. After touring its facility, Senator McCormick and Secretary Turner spoke with staff about how faith-based groups can support families in need at the local level.
