At the Harrisburg Area YMCA, we believe the values and skills learned early in life are vital building blocks for quality of life.  That’s why we seek to combine mentoring opportunities with sports to engage with youth in the community. The Hope in Handball program at the East Shore YMCA reaches out to at-risk kids and teens to help them learn life skills from adult mentors as they learn a new sport. During the program, they learn about sportsmanship, and more importantly, how to be themselves. This makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow!

Family involvement is encouraged for our Hope in Handball program. With the help of others, our Hope in Handball is a great place to find friendships. It also helps you stay active and learn from others in a positive encouraging environment.

Hope in Handball is returning in 2023! Mentors and kids gather at the handball courts at the East Shore YMCA on Wednesdays from 5:00-7:00 PM. The program targets 8-18-year-olds and is free to qualifying kids! For more information about this program, please contact the East Shore YMCA at (717) 232-9622.
