A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Dauphin County Sheriff's Office regarding arrest records on October 22, 2024. The request, made by us at Dauphin News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in public institutions.
Under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, we have requested all arrest records from January 1, 2024, up until the present day. The specific data points we are seeking include the arrestee's name, sex, race, age, date of birth (DOB), citizenship status as well as the booking ID. We have also asked for information about the date of arrest and booking photo.
Furthermore, we are interested in obtaining details about the arresting officer(s), including their names. In addition to this, we would like to know more about the type and location of crime committed along with its date.
As a media organization committed to gathering and reporting news for public consumption, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency for our readership. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a response from the Dauphin County Sheriff's Office regarding this request. As always, we remain committed to delivering reliable news and ensuring that public institutions operate transparently and accountably.
