The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has approved legislation that would allow the Department of General Services to construct a memorial monument on state Capitol grounds in honor of Gold Star Families. This announcement was made by Pennsylvania House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler, representing Lancaster.

The bill, introduced by Representative Joe Kerwin from Dauphin, seeks to recognize families who have lost an immediate family member during active-duty military service. "Rep. Kerwin’s record and family history of military service continues to shine through in this significant recognition for families who have experienced the loss of an immediate family member in active-duty military service," Cutler said. He emphasized that Pennsylvania has 36,584 Gold Star Families dating back to World War II and expressed his belief that the state Capitol grounds are a fitting location for the monument.

Cutler also mentioned ongoing support for Rep. Kerwin and his unit from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, which is currently deployed in East Africa. "We continue to remember the service of Rep. Kerwin and all deployed Pennsylvania Guardsmen as we pray for their safe return back to the Commonwealth, and most importantly, their families and loved ones," he stated.

Despite Rep. Kerwin's deployment, his district and Capitol offices remain operational to serve constituents in the 125th Legislative District.
