Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward commented on the recent approval by President Donald Trump of Nippon’s investment in U.S. Steel. The decision is set to make this merger the largest in the steel industry in recent years, potentially boosting the American steel sector’s global standing through innovation.
The deal, valued at $28 billion, is expected to maintain and generate a total of 25,500 jobs, ensuring that U.S. Steel remains rooted in western Pennsylvania. “President Trump’s engagement in the Nippon/U.S. Steel acquisition has not only made this the largest steel merger in recent history, but will position the American steel industry to dominate the global marketplace through innovation,” said Ward.
Ward also highlighted Trump’s dedication to American interests: “President Trump has always fought for America, so I had no doubt when he decided to review this deal after the Biden administration blocked it that he would fight for the steelworkers and their families here in Pennsylvania and across our country.”
Expressing pride in Pennsylvania’s contributions to national development, Ward added, “I am proud of our Pennsylvania heritage that has helped build this county and the grace and grit of the people who have fought and worked hard to keep America great. This is a great day for western Pennsylvania.”
