Lower Dauphin High School recently issued the following announcement.
Class of 2020 Cap & Gown Pick-up
Dear Class of 2020 Families,
Our goal behind giving the seniors the opportunity to get their caps and gowns was to give them something to be excited about. We know it has been a difficult eight weeks of uncertainty for our seniors and their families. The Class of 2020 has missed many traditional rites of passage this spring and we hope having their traditional graduation robes will provide a small sense of comfort.
Even something as simple as handing out caps and gowns must be impacted by the pandemic and because of that we are taking the following precautions to maintain student safety. They include:
- We have spread out the distribution of gowns over three days by creating an alphabetical schedule on May 14, 15, and 18.
- Students need to adhere to the schedule or contact Mr. Hanula for an alternate time.
- The location was chosen to provide a “drive-through” environment to prevent students from gathering socially on campus and to allow for a quick, efficient process.
- Students should come alone or with a family member. We do NOT want student carpooling together in the same vehicle.
- Students MUST stay in their vehicles until directions to get out and enter the field house building to get their cap and gown.
- Students should have their own masks and practice social distancing during the entire process.
- Caps will be preassembled and placed on a table. The gowns will be in a package labeled with the student’s name.
- Seniors will have an opportunity to take the gown out of the package and put it on for a picture. The photo will be a headshot so boys should wear a collared shirt and tie and girls should have a white top or dress.
- The picture will be used in Virtual Commencement.
- The picture is optional. A senior could just come to pick-up their gown and leave without having their picture taken.
Sincerely,
Justin M. Hanula,
principal
We will be holding a cap & gown pickup for the Class of 2020 May 14-15 and May 18. The cap & gown pickup is a voluntary activity and will be held at the Turf Field adjacent to the Middle School. Students will receive the cap & gown and have a professional cap & gown portrait taken to be used in the Virtual Commencement Ceremony.
Vehicles will enter campus from East Main Street entrance (east of the Soda Jerk restaurant).
Students will be required to bring and wear their own mask, exercise distancing guidelines and the number of people in the building will be limited to no more than 10 total as required under the “red” phase – which includes the staff involved. Students are to stay in their vehicles and are not to congregate outside their vehicles. Students will be directed to park an the assigned area and follow guidance on entry to the field house building.
Process for pick-up:
- Arrive at designated time
- Park in the assigned space
- You are to stay in your car until directed to get out of the vehicle. Also, no more than two students are to be out of a car at a time
- Enter through the designated entrance
- Receive your cap & gown
- Take your formal graduation portrait
- Photos will be taken by Picture Perfect Productions and used in the Virutal Commencement Ceremony June 4.
