‘So Many Things Were Overcome’: Dauphin County Commissioners Honor State Champion Lower Dauphin HS Boys’ Volleyball Team

Meetingspractice

Dauphin County recently issued the following announcement.

The Dauphin County Commissioners hosted the state-champion Lower Dauphin High School Boys’ Volleyball team at a recent public meeting, presenting a proclamation and certificates to players, coaches, and student managers.

The Falcons won Lower Dauphin High School’s first-ever boys’ state volleyball championship, clinching the PIAA Class 2A title last month with a 3-1 match victory over defending state champions, Meadville.

“These boys became a family throughout. It was hard to find a time when they weren't together,” Head Coach David Machamer said at the Board of Commissioners’ meeting. “They were all in.”

Commissioner Chairman Mike Pries applauded the team for making history in the volleyball circuit, expanding on Lower Dauphin’s reputation as a field hockey powerhouse.

Commissioner George P. Hartwick III told the student athletes they have now created a legacy with what they accomplished this season.

“You are state champions forever,” Hartwick said.

Coach Machamer commended his team for overcoming adversity caused by the pandemic, from having to wear masks to the devastation of losing family members.

“So many things were overcome,” Coach Machamer said.

Lower Dauphin finished the season 21-2. The Falcons, who also won the District Three title, only lost a single set in each of the playoff runs – districts and states – each time in the championship round.
