Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education  issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.

The City of Harrisburg will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for Restaurant Row’s newest eatery, Arepa House, on Friday, December 17th at 4:04 pm at 404 N. 2nd Street in Downtown Harrisburg. Arepa House features a 100% Venezuelan Cuisine menu, specializing in various Arepas. This staple flatbread is a made-from-scratch corn flour STUFFED with a choice of slow-cooked meats, black beans, sweet plantains, grated cheese, avocado, and endless combinations.

“With Arepa House we just wanted to spice up the city by bringing something different to it. It’s an amazing feeling seeing that every person that walks out of the restaurant or comes back to the restaurant says that they LOVED it. Because I think it means we are doing something right!” said co-owner Leandro Curvelo about the restaurant’s appeal to the downtown scene.

The restaurant boasts its new vibe on being the home of ‘Las Arepas Más Chevere’s,’ translating to the most incredible and freshest Arepas in The Burg. The family-owned business also offers a range of traditional sides such as Patacones (fried plantains with choice of meat), Cachapas (corn pancakes), Cachitos (bread filled with butter and chopped ham), and tasty Empanadas. Arepa House has an extended menu of sweet desserts and traditional Venezuelan beverages.

Friday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will be commemorated with an authentic Venezuelan band playing contemporary Salsa Music and traditional Joropo and Llanero music.

Arepa House is open on Monday (3-9 pm) and Tuesday through Saturday (10 am-9 pm). Carry-out orders; call 717-857-6656.  For more information, contact Melissa Mesones-Ortiz at 717-798-7128
