The Pittsburgh and Ohio Central (POHC) Railroad Company has secured nearly $1.8 million in state funding to enhance its track infrastructure. The funding will be utilized to rehabilitate approximately 11 miles of track in Washington County, Pennsylvania. The project, which involves the replacement of rail and ties and resurfacing the Arden subdivision, aims to improve the safety and reliability of the railroad's freight services and switching operations.

Sen. Camera Bartolotta, who championed the funding, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I have advocated for this funding for more than a year, so it is very exciting to know it's coming to the 46th District." Bartolotta emphasized the significance of the project in enhancing transportation safety and preventing traffic congestion for motorists and pedestrians.

The funding will enable the replacement of 6,440 feet of rail, a fatigued turnout, and a crossing surface. Additionally, 2,440 ties will be replaced, and 1,000 tons of ballast will be distributed along with associated surfacing. The total cost of the project amounts to nearly $2.6 million, with the railroad providing almost $768,812.

The POHC Railroad Company, classified as a Class III short line railroad, plays a vital role in serving Western Pennsylvania communities and 25 customers. With 38 miles of track in operation, the railroad contributes to the region's freight transportation network.

The investment in the improvement of the POHC track infrastructure demonstrates the commitment of both the state and the railroad company to ensuring efficient and safe transportation services for the region.
