DiSanto Announces Major Funding for Dauphin County Water and Sewer

State Senator John DiSanto has announced that funding assistance has been approved for several water and sewer improvement projects in Dauphin County. The grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) H2O PA Water Supply, Sanitary Sewer, and Storm Water Projects Program, as well as the COVID-19 ARPA Small Water and Sewer Program Projects Program.

Sen. DiSanto emphasized the importance of maintaining safe and reliable water and sewer systems for thriving communities. He stated, "I'm very pleased to announce these grants to help pay for these critical upgrades."

Among the projects receiving funding are Capital Region Water, Lower Paxton Township, Municipal Authority of Lower Swatara Township, Susquehanna Township Authority, Paxtang Borough, East Hanover Township, Dauphin Borough, South Hanover Township, and Royalton Borough Authority.

Capital Region Water will receive $3.5 million for the construction of the Paxton Street Interceptor in Harrisburg. Lower Paxton Township will receive $1.4 million to assist in the replacement and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer lines. The Municipal Authority of Lower Swatara Township will use $1.4 million for an interceptor improvement project. Susquehanna Township Authority will receive $893,773 for improvements to the Fox Run Trunk pumping station.

In addition, several smaller projects will also receive funding. Paxtang Borough will receive $97,099 for the rehabilitation of sanitary sewer infrastructure. Lower Paxton Township will receive $112,150 for the Paxton Creek sediment-reduction project. Municipal Authority of Lower Swatara Township will receive $401,500 for sanitary sewer improvements. East Hanover Township will receive $500,000 to replace aging storm sewer pipes. Dauphin Borough will receive $184,192 for the construction of a new sewer main, and South Hanover Township will use $950,000 for the replacement of a sewage force main and the construction of a new Sand Beach sewage pump station and conveyance force main. Lastly, Royalton Borough Authority will receive $200,000 for improvements to its Water Street Pump Station.

State Representative Joe Kerwin (PA-125) also commented on the funding for Dauphin Borough, stating, "The announcement of this grant funding is a vital investment in Dauphin Borough's infrastructure which will ensure sewer water is disposed of properly. I am glad to have worked with Sen. DiSanto to secure this funding for Dauphin Borough and look forward to the project having a positive impact on the Dauphin community."

The H2O PA program provides grants for the construction of drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer projects, as well as flood control projects and the repair of unsafe dams. The Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants for small water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure projects.

This funding assistance will play a crucial role in improving the water and sewer systems in Dauphin County, ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities it serves.
