State Representative Joe Kerwin, a Republican from Dauphin, has announced the approval of over $5.3 million in state assistance for water and sewer projects in Dauphin County. The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development.
The grants will be allocated to various projects in the county. The Berrysburg Municipal Authority will receive more than $92,000 to fund upgrades to pump stations and a wastewater treatment plant in Berrysburg Borough. Capitol Region Water is set to receive $3.5 million to aid in the construction of the Paxton Street Interceptor in the City of Harrisburg. Lower Paxton Township will receive over $1.4 million for the replacement and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer lines, as well as funding for the retrofitting of detention basins and a grass-lined swale. Dauphin Borough will receive more than $184,000 for the construction of a new sewer main along High Street.
Representative Kerwin expressed enthusiasm for the funding, stating, "This grant funding marks a great investment into one of the most important areas of our infrastructure: water. These projects will benefit the people of the 125th Legislative District by ensuring they have clean water." He also acknowledged the collaboration with Senators Greg Rothman and John DiSanto in securing the funding.
This investment in local infrastructure will have a positive impact on the residents of Dauphin County, ensuring clean water and improved sewer systems. The grants will contribute to the overall development and maintenance of the county's infrastructure, benefiting both residents and businesses alike.
