HARRISBURG— Legislation to amend Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law has advanced in the House Children and Youth Committee with unanimous support, announced Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) on April 16, 2024.

Delozier's House Bill 1059 aims to broaden the definition of “sexual abuse or exploitation” in the Child Protective Services Law to encompass trafficking in minors and involuntary sexual servitude. Expressing the importance of this amendment, Delozier stated, "Sadly, child abuse and neglect and the circumstances that contribute to them are risk factors for becoming a victim of trafficking or sexual servitude."

The representative emphasized the necessity to enhance protections for children, stating, “We must do more to protect the Commonwealth’s children and prevent these outcomes.” Delozier expressed gratitude for the bipartisan support received in the committee, highlighting the bill as a crucial tool for law enforcement and Child Protective Services offices to safeguard children.

Delozier reintroduced the bill, which was formerly known as House Bill 1863, with a focus on combatting human trafficking and enhancing child protection measures. Further inquiries about this legislation or any state-related matters can be directed to Delozier’s office at 717-761-4665.
