State Senator Chris Gebhard has announced that the 48th District will receive more than $8.3 million in state grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The funds are aimed at purchasing essential equipment and enhancing recreational facilities in Lebanon, Lancaster, and Berks counties.
"Being able to purchase life-saving equipment and enhance recreational opportunities in Lebanon, Lancaster and Berks counties without using taxpayer money is a serious win. Because of the gaming proceeds, important purchases to improve the lives of county residents won’t be delayed," Gebhard stated.
The initial portion of these grants was allocated through the CFA's Local Share Account (LSA) Program. This program supports projects related to public interest, community improvement, and economic development with funds generated by casino gaming revenue.
Additionally, a significant grant was awarded under the CFA's Public School Facilities Improvement Grant (PSFIG) Program. This initiative provides financial assistance for facility improvement projects in public school districts and area career and technical schools.
Among the recipients is Eastern Lebanon County School District, which received $1.5 million for a roof repair project at Eastern Lebanon County Middle School located in Jackson Township. The funding will address issues caused by leaks that have damaged interior ceilings, walls, and floors.
All grants were administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency under Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development that manages numerous programs focused on economic development and community enhancement within the state.
