Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier announced $800,000 in state funding for improvements and expansion at Mechanicsburg Fire Station 2, known as "The Hill Station." This announcement took place on Wednesday with members of the Mechanicsburg Fire Department, an all-volunteer force serving the 88th District.
Delozier highlighted the commitment of volunteer firefighters to the Borough of Mechanicsburg and nearby areas. She emphasized that enhancements to The Hill Station would significantly impact public safety in these communities.
“Firefighters and their fire stations are cornerstones of the community, and they need our help to continue thriving,” stated Delozier. “By making this investment in the Mechanicsburg community, we can prolong and improve upon good public safety in the borough and its surrounding municipalities.”
She also mentioned collaboration with the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to allocate state tax dollars locally. "This is a tangible way I can say ‘thank you’ for all the long hours they spend putting themselves in harm’s way to protect the place they call home,” she concluded.
Mechanicsburg Fire Department Chief Chris Bixler shared that the department responded to a record 550 calls this year, highlighting challenges posed by aging facilities amid increasing emergency incidents. “We are excited to announce this state funding; get the new firehouse project at Station 2 underway; and continue serving Mechanicsburg and its surrounding communities," he said. Bixler expressed gratitude towards Rep. Delozier for her efforts in securing these funds.
Funding comes from DCED's appropriation for public safety emergencies, assisting those affected by disasters or other dangerous situations identified by the department.
