The team from Prime Anesthesia Associates, a physician-owned anesthesia practice based in Lancaster County, has joined Penn State Health as of March 24. This move includes three physicians and two certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) from Prime Anesthesia Associates. To further support the team, Penn State Health has hired an additional full-time CRNA and six part-time CRNAs. These changes aim to meet the increasing demand for expert anesthesia care in Lancaster County and align with the shift of more surgical procedures to outpatient settings.
Prime Anesthesia currently provides services at the Surgery Center of Lancaster in East Hempfield Township, where Penn State Health holds majority ownership. The center also hosts surgeries performed by physicians from Lancaster Orthopedic Group, which affiliated with Penn State Health earlier this year.
Dr. Safa Farzin, senior vice president of Penn State Health Medical Group, commented on the development: “By hiring the excellent care team from Prime Anesthesia Associates and recruiting additional CRNAs to support that team, we are ensuring that our orthopedic surgeons continue to have superior anesthesia coverage at the Surgery Center of Lancaster.” Dr. Farzin added that these hirings would facilitate expanded services and improve patient access to advanced surgical treatments.
There is potential for Prime Anesthesia's physicians and CRNAs to extend their practice to include the Lancaster Orthopedic Group Surgery Center in the future.
Dr. Robert Garvin from Prime Anesthesia Associates expressed enthusiasm about joining Penn State Health: “Our team is thrilled to be joining Penn State Health,” he said. “The move will allow us to further strengthen our mission of providing the highest standard of anesthesia services while ensuring a seamless patient-centered experience.”
