On May 14, 2024, Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) announced that two Senior Community Centers (SCCs) in the 88th Legislative District have been awarded state grant funding from the Department of Aging’s competitive grant program.

Mechanicsburg Place Senior Center will receive $36,487, and West Shore Citizens Senior Center will receive $33,048. These funds can be utilized for larger-scale projects such as capital improvements and renovations.

Delozier emphasized the vital role SCCs play in the community for older adults. "Not only do they provide a gathering place for local seniors, but SCCs also ensure seniors are supported by health services and recreation programs that keep them connected to the community," she said. "I am glad to see these dollars from the competitive grant program invested in the 88th District, and I look forward to seeing the improvements that are made as a result of the grant awards.”

Pennsylvania is home to 484 Area Agency on Aging-affiliated SCCs that offer a variety of services including nutritious meals, educational opportunities, transportation services, financial and insurance counseling, and exercise programs. Mechanicsburg Place and West Shore Citizens Senior Center were among 45 SCCs selected to receive awards under this program.

The General Assembly appropriates the grant funding with proceeds from the Pennsylvania Lottery.
