The Senate has unanimously passed legislation sponsored by Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) to permit year-round safety inspections for motorcycles registered in Pennsylvania. Currently, the state Vehicle Code restricts these inspections to the period from March to October, despite motorcycles being operable throughout the year.

Senate Bill 1147 aims to remove this restriction, thereby providing motorcycle operators with more flexibility in completing required inspections. The bill maintains that motorcycle registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will still be linked to the month of inspection.

"My bill maintains the safety we expect on our roads while offering owners more convenience regarding when they would like to have their motorcycles inspected," Bartolotta stated. "It would also help to even out the demand auto mechanics face, making it easier for everyone – including those who aren’t motorcycle owners – to access important services."

The bill now advances to the House of Representatives for consideration.
