Rep. Sheryl Delozier of Cumberland has been awarded the Policy Leadership Award by the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

“It is an honor to be recognized for my record of introducing and supporting good policy that impacts our HVAC professionals. The heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration (HVACR), and water heating equipment industry in my district and across Pennsylvania deserves our full support,” said Delozier. “Listening to industry professionals and adapting legislation to best fit their needs is an integral part of my job as a state representative, and I am glad I could help this important industry.”

In the last legislative session, Delozier sponsored House Bill 2079. This bill aimed to update the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) by allowing certain refrigerants to be classified as acceptable alternatives to hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) under the federal Clean Air Act. Former Governor Tom Wolf signed it into law in November as Act 123 of 2022.

The legislation addressed a conflict between Pennsylvania’s Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and a federal law concerning the Environmental Protection Agency’s required refrigerants. Besides reducing greenhouse gases emitted by HFCs, it is expected that more jobs will be created in response to new refrigeration products and technology.
