The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has announced that Greene and Washington counties will receive grants aimed at enhancing digital connectivity by providing laptops. This announcement was made by Senator Camera Bartolotta, representing the 46th District.

Bartolotta highlighted the importance of internet access in various aspects of life, stating, “Having access to high-speed internet unlocks the full potential of students who are trying to learn, employers who are trying to succeed in their communities and adults who are trying to run their daily lives. However, especially given the elevated prices of basic necessities, the cost can be prohibitive for some. These grants will help to remove that challenge.”

The grants come from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act Digital Connectivity Technology Program. Local governments and community institutions were required to demonstrate that affordability is a barrier to broadband adoption in order to compete for a portion of the program's $20 million funding.

The PBDA was established with support from Senate Republicans as an independent agency within the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Its role includes creating a statewide broadband plan and distributing federal and state funds for expanding broadband projects in areas lacking adequate service.
