Senator Camera Bartolotta has announced an $8.4 million state grant aimed at revitalizing an abandoned mine site in Greene County. The Crucible North Project, led by the Natural Streams Foundation, will tackle environmental challenges by removing approximately 213,000 cubic yards of coal refuse and restoring over six acres in Cumberland Township. The initiative also includes regrading and revegetating the land to restore its natural functionality.

"As a member of the Senate Labor and Industry Committee, I am pleased to note that this project creates and supports union jobs, ensuring that the initiative fosters sustainable job growth in the region," said Bartolotta. "I look forward to seeing reclamation efforts drive sustainable job growth and environmental restoration."

The funding was provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation. This bureau operates under authorization from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement to issue grants for projects involving abandoned mine land reclamation and acid mine drainage treatment or abatement.
