White Mass Celebrated in Honor of Diocesan Healthcare Providers

Nearly 15 years ago, the Catholic Medical Association’s Harrisburg Guild was formed in the Diocese with a mission to “form and support current and future physicians to live and promote the principles of the Catholic faith in the science and practice of medicine.”

On October 25, Bishop Ronald Gainer celebrated the annual White Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg, where more than two dozen healthcare professionals gathered to receive a special blessing from the bishop for their ongoing devotion to delivering compassionate care to the sick in the 15 counties of the Diocese.

“Thank you for providing healthcare with the bioethics of our Catholic faith … especially so in the current climate of our country,” Bishop Gainer said in his homily. “You navigate through our medical storms and see the human person, as flawed as we are, as the handiwork of a loving God. You never see the human person as a mistake…. I hope this White Mass renews your commitment to these Catholic values even more.”

Dressed in their white lab coats and joined by their families, the physicians, nurses and healthcare providers gathered for holy Mass under the patronage of St. Luke. The Harrisburg Guild also partners with the St. Thomas More Society of Central Pennsylvania – a local organization for Catholic lawyers, judges and lawmakers – on matters of ethics and law. Both organizations are welcoming new members. To learn more about both organizations, please visit www.cathmedharrisburg.org and www.saintthomasmoresociety.com.
