HARRISBURG – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) to allow safety inspections on motorcycles registered in Pennsylvania year-round received support from the Senate Transportation Committee today.

Currently, Pennsylvania’s Vehicle Code mandates that safety inspections for motorcycles can only be performed from March to October, despite the fact that motorcycles can be purchased and operated throughout the year. Senate Bill 1147 aims to eliminate this restriction, allowing for uniformity and consistency in motorcycle safety inspections. Motorcycle registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation would continue to be tied to the month the vehicle is inspected.

“Preventing safety inspections for a third of the year – even though people are allowed to operate their motorcycles all year long – serves no purpose. It simply creates frustration for owners who are motivated to keep our roads safe,” Bartolotta said. “I am grateful my bill received committee support and look forward to its continued advancement so people don’t have to continue dealing with this unnecessary roadblock.”

The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
