State Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier | Pennsylvania 88th Legislative District
Today, Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland) and the House Republican Policy Committee, led by Chairman Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington), convened a hearing to highlight the efforts of public schools in Cumberland County to provide quality education while respecting taxpayers. Cumberland County encompasses 11 different school districts.
The hearing, titled “Back to School,” took place at the Mechanicsburg Area School District Administrative Building and featured testifiers Dr. Mark Leidy, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units; Dr. Andrew Bitz, superintendent of Mechanicsburg Area School District; Danielle Eisner, science teacher at Cedar Cliff High School; and Mike Gossert, member of the Cumberland Valley School Board and president of the PA School Board Association.
“Cumberland County schools are models for excellence in education and fiscal responsibility, and I was grateful for the opportunity to showcase their achievements at today’s hearing,” said Delozier. “Pennsylvania students deserve the best schools, and the best can be achieved through accountability, standards, and efficient use of resources.”
“Public schools are a core component of our education system in Pennsylvania, thus the House Republicans’ track record of supporting increased funding to public schools,” said Kail. “But the funding needs to fund the students, not systems. If we want notable student outcomes and affordability for local taxpayers, our approach to education must be student-centered.”
